Praed Street W2. City of Westminster. c1960s Enamel sign.

Enamel sign. Produced for City of Westminster. Designed by Sir Misha Black. Measures XXXcm x XXcm. Very good ex-used condition. Some loss to enamel at the edges and a little rust.

This is an original 1960s street sign for Praed Street, a street in Paddington in the City of Westminster, most notable for being the location of London Paddington station. This is an interesting example as the ‘W2’ is much bolder than it should be (compared with other signs on the street).

The iconic design of the City of Westminster street signs was the work of Sir Mischa Black, renowned British Architect and designer. Despite its modern appearance, Black designed this street sign format in the 1960s and is now under copyright. Black also designed some of the original moquettes for the London Underground.
