The Improved District Railway Map of London - (1879)

Published by the Partington Advertising Company for the Metropolitan District Railway Company. Published c.1879. Measures 107cm x 65cm. Lovely condition. Covers are a bit worn and fitted askew in production but otherwise an excellent example.

Following the opening of the Metropolitan railway in 1863, The District Railway was the 2nd Underground railway to open in London in 1868, running from South Kensington to Westminster. The Metropolitan District Railway Company produced large format maps laid on Linen from 1874 to 1908. This is the 3rd overall edition and dates to 1879. There is a snipe added to the map advising that the line to Acton has opened (July 1879).
