'Waterloo' London Underground Enamel Platform Sign (late 1970s)
Waterloo - Enamel London Underground platform roundel sign.
Vitreous enamel and steel sign Late 1970s/ early 1980s. Burnham Signs (unmarked). Measures 65cm x 65cm (25”). Condition: Superb, some small marks consistent with being in situ for decades.
This sign was displayed on the track-side wall of Waterloo tube station which is served by the Bakerloo, Northern, Jubilee and Waterloo & City Lines. The Underground station at Waterloo first opened in 1898 (Water & City Railway) being joined by the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway (Bakerloo) in 1906, with the Northern Line arriving in 1926.
It is likely this sign was removed during the extensive refurbishment for the Jubilee line extension in the 1990s.
