TV prop - Trafalgar Square London Underground Sign (Dad's Army 2019)
Trafalgar Square - Reproduction London Underground Sign (MDF construction)
Modern MDF construction, painted with laminated lettering. Manufactured in 2019. Measures 123 cm (W) x 99cm (H). Condition: Excellent with signs of being outside for a prolonged period (water drops marks that would rub off but actually add to the look, so I have left them). Some minor damage to the bottom edge. Red writing on the rear.
This skilfully made reproduction of a brass framed 3-piece London Underground roundel was produced for the 2019 production of “Dad’s Army: The Lost Episodes”. Even from a few feet away, the sign is extremely convincing. This would make a wonderful feature piece and easy to display on account of it being relatively light compared with an enamel and bronze original.
Dad’s Army (1968-1977) is one of Britain’s favourite sitcoms but 3 of the original 80 episodes were lost. In 2019, using the original scripts by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, those three episodes were recreated as faithfully as possible.
Trafalgar Square was a station on the Bakerloo Line and opened in 1906. On the arrival of the Jubilee line (opening in 1979) Trafalgar Square and neighbouring Strand Station formed the new Charing Cross station.
