The BFG - Uncorrected Proof - Roald Dahl (1982)

£895.00

The BFG (Roald Dahl)

Written by Roald Dahl. Published By Jonathan Cape. 1982. Uncorrected proof copy. Illustrated by Quentin Blake. Measures 23.4cm x 15.6cm. 224pp. Publication details on cover. Condition. Small spot of loss to the red cover.

Uncorrected proofs represent a moment of excitement and great apprehension for publisher and author. That said, it’s hard to believe that Dahl and his publisher Jonathan Cape had any concerns as the uncorrected proof of The BFG landed on the desks of reviewers and fellow authors. Uncorrected Proofs are rare owing to their small print run - typically Jonathan Cape produced between 500-600 uncorrected proof copies.

The BFG is one of Roald Dahl's best loved tales with over 50 million sales worldwide. The BFG has often been referred to as a “love letter to his daughter” (Olivia) who died in 1962 aged just 7. The book is dedicated to Olivia in the FEP.

The book became the basis for several stage and screen adaptations, most notably the 2016 Walt Disney Pictures film directed by Stephen Spielberg starring Mark Rylance as the BFG. The BFG character first appears in a story told to Danny by his father in Danny, the Champion of the World (1975).
