The London production of Les Miserables by Cameron Mackintosh and the Royal Shakespeare Company premiered at the Barbican Theatre in September 1985. After just two months, the show moved to the Palace Theatre and then the Sondheim Theatre becoming a global sensation and the longest-running musical in the West End. 

This extremely rare 1st edition programme is in wonderful condition. The striking artwork by Dewynters is an adaptation of the original book cover illustration by Emile Bayard and combines with the distinctive 'Caston Antique' typeface to create was has become one of the most recognisable and iconic visuals of the 20th Century.     

Les Miserables is a musical adapted from French poet and novelist  Victor Hugo's 1862 novel of the same name. The original French musical premiered in Paris in 1980 with direction by Robert Hossein.
