Bristol Zoo - Butterfly Forest ‘Butterfly Checker’ Mirrors
Acrylic mirrors, affixed to wooden bases. Measuring approx. 166cm x 28cm. Vinyl lettering. Some minor wear but otherwise in excellent condition. Provenance: Purchased directly from Bristol Zoo.
Located at the exit of the Butterfly Forest, visitors were advised to check themselves in these mirrors to avoid carrying out a butterfly out into the open.
Bristol Zoo closed it’s gates in 2022 after 186 years. Its iconic location in Clifton is being redeveloped into housing, meanwhile the animals have been moved to its ‘Wild Place Project’ site close to the M5 motorway, which reopened in 2024.
In November 2024, Bristol Zoo held an extraordinary sale offering life-sized gorillas, giant beetle sculptures, signs, posters (and much more) attracting over 2000 bidders from around the world. The auction was conducted by Auctioneum (Bristol). A catalogue of this auction will be provided with these items.
