Designed by Reginald Montague Lander (1913-1982). Printed in Great Britain by Stafford & Co Ltd for British Railways (North Eastern Region). Presented in custom wood frame with plexiglass. Quad Royal Poster; Measures 127cm x 101cm. Frame approximately 142cm x 116cm. Condition: Excellent. Professionally backed including some light restoration.
This wonderfully evocative poster promotes the Yorkshire Coast and features a fun and colourful illustration of Yorkshire's tourist attractions. Lander’s poster saw two variants, one with a railway route map and one without. this example includes the route map. Strikingly like Harry Beck’s iconic Underground map, the route is shown in a diagrammatic style and works superbly with the artwork.
Reginald Lander was a notable commercial artist and poster designer who, after studying at Hammersmith School of Art, joined Ralph Mott Studio where he became chief designer and studio manager between 1930-1939. Lander worked for Government Ministries, British Transport Commission and the Post Office and produced posters for GWR, BR (LM), LNER & BR.
