Vitreous enamel and steel sign Late 1970s/early 1980s with original mounting frame. Measures 64.5cm x 64.5cm. Condition: Superb, some small marks consistent with being in situ for decades.
This wonderful and original sign comes from Oxford Circus Station on the London Underground. Oxford Circus is the intersection of Oxford Street and Regent Street, the heart of London's shopping district. This style of sign was produced from the late 1970s and would have been displayed on platform walls.
Oxford Circus London Underground station opened in 1900 on the Central London Railway (Central Line) and was joined by the Bakerloo Railway in 1906 and the 1969 the Victoria Line.
It is likely that these signs were replaced during the 2007 modernisation of the station.
