'Regent's Park' London Underground Enamel Sign (late 1970s)
Regent’s Park - Enamel London Underground platform roundel sign.
Vitreous enamel and steel sign Late 1970s/ early 1980s with original 2-piece aluminium mounting frame. Measures 65cm x 65cm (25”). Condition: Superb.
This sign , offered complete with aluminium mounting frame, was displayed on the track-side wall of Regent’s Park London Underground station, which is served by the Bakerloo Line.
The station was opened on 10 March 1906 by the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway (BS&WR); in the original parliamentary authority for the construction of the BS&WR no station was allowed at Regent's Park. Permission was granted to add it to the already partially constructed line in 1904. Unlike most of the other Bakerloo stations, Regent's Park has no surface buildings and is accessed from a subway. The station is served by lifts. There is also a staircase which can be used which has 96 steps.
These enamel platform signs were installed across the London Underground network from the late 1970s when the ‘New Johnston’ typeface was adopted.
