London Underground Station Map - 1970

Designed by Paul Garbutt, based on the original diagrammatic principles of HC Beck. Printed by Waterlow & Sons for London Transport. Quad Royal size 127cm x 101cm. Print Code 1169/4050Z/5000 (Jan. 1970). Colour lithograph on paper. Condition: Linen-Backed. Excellent condition. A few age related marks with minor loss at two corners. Please inspect the photos carefully.

This early 19709 edition of Paul Garbutt’s Quad Royal station map was among the first to show the new Victoria Line between Wathamstow and Victoria. It shows the Southern extension to Brixton as ‘in construction’. Since its introduction in 1964, the Garbutt’s design evolved subtly, seeing the compression of the distinctive ‘Thermos Flask’ Circle line and everything contained therein. The Paul Garbutt reinterpretation of Harry Beck’s diagram has endured to this day, it remains the basis of the current London Underground map.
