1967 London Underground Station Map - Quad Royal (Paul Garbutt)
London Underground Station Map - 1967
Designed by Paul Garbutt, based on the original diagrammatic principles of HC Beck. Printed by Waterlow & Sons for London Transport. Quad Royal size 127cm x 101cm. Print Code 1167/3328Z/ 2500(R). Colour lithograph on paper. Condition: Excellent example. A darker rectangle likely caused by a sticker/snipe that has since come off.
This 1967 edition of Paul Garbutt’s Quad Royal station map shows the Victoria Line as in construction, though this is the first map to show the later approved extension down to Brixton.
Since its introduction in 1964, the Garbutt’s design evolved subtly, seeing the vertical expansion of the distinctive ‘Thermos Flask’ Circle line and everything contained therein. The Paul Garbutt reinterpretation of Harry Beck’s diagram has endured to this day, it remains the basis of the current London Underground map.
