Designed by Paul Garbutt, based on the diagrammatic principles of HC Beck. Printed by Johnson Riddle & Co Limited for London Transport. Bi-fold Paper pocket map printed in colour. Measures 22.5cm x 15cm (open). Condition: Excellent. Minor fold separations have been reinforced with japanese tissue for longevity.
This special World Cup issue of Paul Garbutt’s London Underground map features the first World Cup mascot “World Cup Willie” on the cover and two additional maps on the verso showing the location of Wembley and White City stadia. The latter long-since demolished.
Today, this issue is considered one of the rarest post-war Underground maps. Unlike the common card map issued at stations, this issue was printed in relatively low numbers and on thin paper.
