1899 District Railway Miniature Map of London & Environs (6th Edition)
District Railway Miniature Map of London and Environs 6th Edition c.1899
Designed by W.E Soar. Lithograph on paper. Two-colour lithograph. Folded paper map, blank verso (guide book edition). Undated. Marked 6th Edition top right corner.
We have never held an issue of this map labelled 3rd, 4th or 5th edition. The 6th edition was first issued in 1899 and updated regularly up to 1904 to reflect significant progress of the Uxbridge extension and the opening of the Central London Railway.
This 1899 6th edition is the first to show the approved deep-level tubes (CLR, Piccadilly Tube and Hampstead Tube) as in construction. It still shows the City and South London Railway terminating at Stockwell with its extension shown as a dashed line, opening in 1900. The extension between Ealing and Uxbridge is shown in construction.
