1898 District Railway Miniature Map of London
District Railway Miniature Map of London c.1898
Lithograph on paper. Two-colour lithograph. Folded paper map, blank verso. Originally attached to a guide book dated 1892.
This ‘miniature map’ series was published by the District Railway between 1877-1927, published as pocket counter-parts to the large format maps of the day.
This edition can be dated to 1898;. Rather strangely, the map makes reference to the 9th edition of the District Railway Map of London (which was actually the 6th edition by name - as the edition numbering was reset for the 4th edition in 1879). It also promotes the Boot’s District Railway Guide. Both were published in 1898.
