1890 District Railway Miniature Map of London
District Railway Miniature Map of London c.1890
Lithograph on paper. Two-colour lithograph. Folded paper pocket map, information printed on verso.
This ‘miniature map’ series published by the District Railway followed maps of a similar design 1876-1882 which were simply titled “District Railway” or Metropolitan District Railway”. This miniature map continued to be updated and published until 1927.
This edition announces the opening of the line between Putney Bridge and Wimbledon (opened 1890) with an inset map of the new line. Despite opening in the same year, the City and South London Railway (the first deep level tube railway) isn’t yet shown. It first appears on the 1892 edition.
