This decorative art deco carriage panel poster was designed by Heather ‘Herry’ Perry. Perry designed 13 posters and 41 carriage panels for London Transport between 1928-1937. The design features racing horses riding above the decorative lettering which is strewn with various characters one would expect to find at the Derby in the 1930s.

The poster refers to the Epsom Derby horse race, which took place on 3rd June and has been run since 1780. In 1931 - the year of the poster - the Epsom Derby was the first outdoor sporting event to be televised.

Despite passing away nearly six decades ago, Perry's art continues to be featured in art exhibitions and publications. Most recently, her posters have been included in shows curated specifically to showcase forgotten women designers and artists.
