1925 British Empire Exhibition Map - JC Betts

£150.00

The New Wembley 1925 British Empire Exhibition - May - October.

Designed by JC Betts (photographic border design by Campbell-Gray Ltd). Printed by Waterlow & Sons. Monochrome lithograph on paper. Measures 75cm x 50.5cm. Dated 1925. Excellent Condition.

The British Empire Exhibition originally ran between April and November 1924, but it was not a financial success, and the decision was taken to reopen it after a winter break, with some variations. J.C. Betts’ pictorial map was created for this new, 1925 season. Bett’s makes up for the lack of colour enjoyed by the 1924 edition by using a clever blend of illustration and photography.

JC Betts was a founder member of the Clement Danes Studio and he designed the common London Underground map in 1924-1925 across four issues (June, August, November 1924 and Summer 1925).
