Transformers is a global media franchise produced by American toy company Hasbro and Japanese toy company Takara Tomy. It primarily follows the heroic Autobots, lead by their Commander Optimus Prime, and the villainous Decepticons, two alien robot factions at war that can transform into other forms, such as vehicles and animals. The franchise encompasses toys, animation, comic books, video games and films.
Originating as Japanese toys produced by Takara Co Ltd under the name Micro Change and Diaclone. Hasbro bought the toys, and partnered with Takara. Marvel Comics was hired by Hasbro to create the backstory. The first toys under the ‘Transformers’ name were released in 1984.
The first generation (‘G1’) Optimus Prime is widely considered to be the most collectable of the original Transformer toys. They were produced in a few locations; This example was produced by Ceji Revel (France) who manufactured them for the European market under licence from Takara. Some of the Ceji G1 examples were produced with Red feet, and some with blue feet. So collectors refer to this example as a ‘G1 Ceji Blue Feet’.
