'Gentlemen' Railway Platform Sign - Double-sided (c.1900)

Two vitreous enamel signs as a double-sided hanging sign in painted wood frame. Manufactured for South Eastern Railways. Measures 96cm x 25cm x 8cm. Condition: excellent with modern hanging hoops.
It is believed this early vitreous enamel sign once hung on the platform of a South Eastern Railway station. Based on typeface and construction this double-sided sign dates to around 1900 and is similar in style to those installed on the London Underground ‘tubes’ in 1908-10. Its extremely thick and robust, as the frame carries two enamel signs, one for each side.
