1927 Architect Plan of Golder's Green London Underground Station (Ink & watercolour)

£1,995.00

L.E. Rly. Golders Green Station. Proposed Porch & Passimeters

London Electric Railway Company. Ink and watercolour on thick paper. Stamped and signed by E.A Roome & Co (Builders). Dated 1927. Folded. Measures 76cm x 55cm. Excellent condition. Currently framed but available unframed.

This is an original hand drafted architectural plan for a new entrance building at Golders Green London Underground station. This addition allowed more space in the ticket hall for new free-standing ticket offices with integrated barriers know as ‘passimeters’ - these were the first ticket barriers on the London Underground.

The art deco design is in keeping with new stations being built at that time by Charles Holden. The stepped frontage has an integrated London Underground roundel at the top whilst the main wall has dedicated space for four double royal poster frames and an enormous enamel map.

This new addition to Golders Green station was completed in 1928. See photos of before and after.

Golders Green Underground Station first opened in 1907, as the terminus for the Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Railway - or ‘Hamsptead Tube’ - which became part of the Northern Line.
