1897 District Railway Miniature Map of London & Environs (2nd Edition)

£0.00

District Railway Miniature Map of London and Environs 2nd Edition c.1897

Designed by W.E Soar. Lithograph on paper. Two-colour lithograph. Folded paper map, information on verso. Undated. Marked ‘2nd Edition’ top right corner.

This is the 2nd edition of the updated ‘Miniature Map’ series which sees “and Environs” added to the title. Indeed the map itself covers a broader region, showing more to the west side of London where the DR expanded so rapidly over the latter part of the 19th century.

This edition can be dated to around 1898;. There are no clues to the exact date though unlike the 1st edition, this doesn’t show the planned extension to South Harrow. The City & South London Railway only goes as far as Stockwell with the southern extension shown as a dashed line. These opened in 1900.
