Two Yale Students who observed this phenomenom, Richard Knerr and Arthur Melin, co-founded Wham-o and in 1957 produced the first Frisbee (respelt to avoid trademark issues). Over 300 Million Frisbees have been sold worldwide. The Frisbee (or Disc, if not Wham-o) has inspired an array of 'disc sports' including Ultimate and Disc Golf, being played across the world at the highest level of competition.

A Frisbie Pie Tin was featured in Back to The Future Part 3 (1987); Marty Mcfly throws one at Biff Buchanans gun and saves Doc's life.
