This angular design of the London Underground map represents the sudden end of Harry Becks relationship with London Transport as chief designer of the Underground ‘Diagram’. In 1960, the loose verbal agreement that Beck had long relied upon was ignored by Harold Hutchison (Publicity Officer of London Transport) who decided to redraw the Underground Map and credited himself as designer. Beck was dismayed and despite dozens of letters and submitting three hand drawn design proposals, London Transport never engaged his services again.
